8 months and DONE
I ALWAYS wanted to live in a tiny house. I mean have you seen those tiny house shows?! When we opted to live in a 5th wheel while we built our house, it was with the intention we would be in a camp ground temporarily and then out on our land with the barn built and the house started in the summer 2022. That was really wishful thinking. We still don’t have power or water out there.
Back in June, we threw around the idea of buying an older house in town to fix up and live in, and then sell or rent out once our forever house is done. So we started looking. We looked at a couple properties and then went under contract on ours in early July! We closed on it at the end of July.
We opted to stay in the camper for a little bit longer while we started the gut/renovation on the house.
September 18 we officially pulled our camper out of the camp ground and out to our land for good, well, until we sell it.
8 months of tiny living/camper living was enough for me. The winter was cold and the summer was hot. As a family, we love hanging out and relaxing at home, we found this to be a little bit challenging in the camper over time. As Hadley Ann got older, she needed more space to play. While spring and summer allowed us to spend a lot of time playing/exploring outside, knowing winter was around the corner felt a little daunting. Our house isn’t started or quite frankly even close.
I am not a cook. I don’t really enjoy cooking. But being without a full kitchen made me realize that I missed being able to bake and make dinner every night. Camper cooking is not the same… it was just too small of a space for me.
The camper served its purpose for us, we were able to settle in to life in a new town/state without trying to buy in a place we were unfamiliar with. It gave us time to realize what all we needed to do on our land for our house build. It was a good transition phase for us.
Social media has a way of glorifying things and truthfully, I feel like RV/camper living is over glorified on social media. Maybe I would feel different if we were traveling the country living in our camper but stationary camper living was not for me longterm.
Tiny living is a closed chapter for us at this time!
